Dragon

PD Models were approached by a Digital sculptor with the requirement to produce a 3D print of a 3D CAD rendered character to be used on an exhibition stand. The client supplied the 3D CAD data and PD Models had to produce the character and a way of presenting it.

A 3D print was made in high definition using our 3D printer. This recreated the character beautifully without the need for any post processing to get rid of tell tale “stepping” marks that would have showed up with other processes. With the 3D print we were confident that even very fine detail in the 3D CAD would show through to the model.

Going on a rough guideline from the client PD modes then hand painted the dragon, and a set of eyes were made from resin giving them a nice depth. A stand was also required that would fit with the overall look of the dragon. This was PD Models free reign, and we feel we provided a neat solution that compliments the look of the dragon.

Due to the fragile nature of the dragon the issue of its transportation had to be considered. Not only the initial delivery to the client but the transportation to and from the exhibition. With this in mind the model was split into pieces. The wings are removable and the dragon comes away from the base. Assembly is made simple by a pin and hole system. This makes the individual parts a lot easier and safer to transport.
